We are continuing to use the Journey's curriculum. This encompasses spelling, reading, grammar, and writing. The students will be taught in whole and small groups. We will also be using Scholastic News and trade books. Please keep in mind that we are not doing a traditional Monday-Friday schedule. We are rotating every 6 days or so on a new unit so things like Spelling tests will be given 5 days after the list is sent home, unlike the typical "Friday test." If you have questions, please contact your child's teacher.

This year we are continuing to use the Everyday Math series. Next week we will be completing Lessons 4-10 and 4-12. This unit focuses on measurement and geometry. The Home Links were sent home.
We will also start to prepare for our unit and cumulative assessment. We hope to have this unit assessed before the break.

Writing with Mrs. Wright~

I am your child's third grade writing teacher. I hope to instill a passion and love for writing amongst all third graders. We'll be writing opinion pieces, informative/explanatory texts & narratives this year. I'll use explicit instruction to teach Anita Archer's Summary Writing Strategy with my homeroom section. Please let me know if you have any questions as to what we're practicing in writing class.

Our class is completing a STEM project with Mrs. James. We discussed what resources help communities thrive. We also discussed what goods and services Van Meter offers and what the students think Van Meter needs in order to become a larger, thriving community. The students are engineering a community out of graham crackers, icing, and other delicious snacks. After our construction is complete, the students will skype with another group of students and share their communities with each other. This is a delicious crowd pleaser! We will continue to post pictures of our construction phase and will post pics of the completed community.

Project brainstorming, project research, and project construction.
